Isabelle Vigier

Biography

Isabelle Vigier works around the relation between human figure and landscape, exploring the complexities of this interconnection. Her images evoke a reality between document and fiction and pose socio-political questions in relation to aesthetic ones. Vigier’s media of choice are photography and video, other disciplines such as movement, sound and technology having an important role in her creative vision.

Next to making video installations, films, and photography she has often worked in the context of dance or music performances in collaboration with choreographers and composers. The long and fruitful artistic relationship with Magpie Music Dance company starting in the late 1990’s was the beginning of her close collaborative work with the avant-garde of both contemporary dance and music in the Netherlands. Recent examples are a series of projects with composer/performer Anne La Berge and the exhibition Safe Piece (installation), a collaboration with dancer Valentina Campora, shown at MEGS in 2020.

Isabelle Vigier is co-founder and co-artistic director of the music label Unsounds in Amsterdam. She is also an independent graphic designer.
